Andrew Shao, Environment and Climate Change Canada

Andrew Shao is a scientist at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis, part of Environment and Climate Change Canada. His primary research interests include the numerical development of ocean general circulation models used in studies of the Earth’s climate, exploring the coupling of the atmosphere, ocean, and land as a multi-rate problem, and accelerating the convergence of artificial intelligence techniques with traditional numerical codes. He is a core developer of the Canadian Earth System Model version 5 and the NEMO and MOM6 ocean models. He holds a PhD and Masters in Oceanography from the University of Washington and bachelor’s degrees in applied mathematics and Computational Physics from the University of California at San Diego.
