Pieter Ghysels is a research scientist in the Scalable Solvers Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, in Berkeley, California. His main interests are in High Performance Computing (HPC) and linear algebra. Pieter has expertise in both iterative methods and direct methods for the solution of systems of linear equations, and is exploring novel machine learning methods for HPC. Pieter is the main author of the STRUMPACK library, a collection of scalable algebraic solvers and preconditioners for dense and sparse systems, relying on hierarchical (rank-structured) matrix approximations and the sparse multifrontal method. Pieter Ghysels received an Engineering degree in 2006 from KULeuven, the (Flemmish) Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium.
